Doctors have discovered a new blood type, EMM negative, which does not fit into any of the known categories of ‘A,’ ‘B,’ ‘O,’ or ‘AB.’ A 65-year-old Gujarati man with heart disease has been identified as having the specific blood type.
Four Type of blood groups.
A, B, O, Rh, and Duffy are the four major blood groups in humans. Some people’s blood contains EMM high-frequency antigen, which distinguishes them from the vast majority of other individuals.
People with these extremely rare blood types cannot donate or receive blood from anyone else.
There are nine persons in the world that have this particular blood type. A 65-year-old man from Rajkot, Gujarat, has been identified as one of only nine people in the world with this blood type.
For heart surgery, Dr. Sanmukh Joshi, a doctor at the Samarpan Blood Donation Center in Surat, said that the patient who had been receiving care in Ahmedabad needed blood from the Samarpan Blood Center.
According to him, when the sample was examined, it did not match any known group, therefore blood samples from the elderly man and his relatives were sent to the United States for further study.
As a result, the doctor explained, the elderly man’s blood type was India’s first and the world’s tenth most uncommon. According to the ISBT, a blood sample is considered EMM negative if it contains no detectable EMM.
